The main security duty was carried out by Pakistan Army while over 4,000 personnel of Islamabad police, Rangers and Frontier Constabulary (FC) were also deployed on the occasion. A three-layer security strategy i.e. inner, outer and outer-most cordon was implemented and personnel of Pakistan Army were deployed in the inner cordon.
Heavy contingent of Pakistan Army, police and Rangers were deployed on all roads leading to the Red Zone and on especially Islamabad Expressway during the arrival and departure of Saudi Crown Prince. Gun-toting personnel of Rangers were standing alert on rooftops of buildings in the vicinity of Constitution Avenue, while others closely guarded different buildings below.
The law enforcement agencies also conducted air surveillance of the city and surrounding areas of the Red Zone. Police were conducting random search of vehicles across the city and a great sense of seriousness was evident. The entry of heavy vehicles was banned in the city on the occasion and light vehicles were allowed to move on alternate routes due to closure of some roads.
Commandoes of Islamabad Police, lady police, mobile patrolling, personnel of Counter Terrorism Force (CTF) and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), and vehicles of fire brigade were also deputed at different locations in the city.
The district administration of Islamabad and Rawalpindi announced local holiday on Monday but road users faced problem due to shortage of public transport and a large numbers of diversions. Major hospitals including Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Polyclinic were also put on high alert. Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) also devised traffic plan for convenience of the public.
